Luigi Sterlini qualified as a solicitor in 1983, having undertaken his training in a firm in Lincolns’ Inn, London. Luigi joined Tyrer Roxburgh & Co as an assistant solicitor in 1984 and became a partner four years later. Having a rounded background in most areas of civil and criminal litigation, as well as conveyancing and other “non-contentious” work, Luigi has in the last few years focussed on housing litigation, with particular reference to tenants’ rights. For four years from 2000 Luigi was the firm’s General Managing Partner and from 2004 until 2007 concentrated his management skills in the task of Finance Partner. Luigi retired from the partnership in March 2007 and since then has continued to be associated with the firm as a consultant, undertaking casework.
As the son of immigrant parents who came to London in the early 1950s (and fluent in Italian) Luigi is particularly alive to the problems faced by clients from ethnic minority backgrounds. This has helped him to provide a valuable service not only within the practice, but also to the Haringey Citizens Advice Bureaux, where for 19 years he participated in the free legal advice sessions, and since 2002 has been a volunteer member of the Trustee Board as Treasurer.
Luigi was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2000 and he sits once per week in one of the various the County Courts in London - for more details about the office of Deputy District Judge visit www.dca.gov.uk/judicial/appointments/jappinfr.htm#five. He was appointed to the London Courts Board in October 2004, shortly before the creation of HMCS – for more details about the Courts Boards visit http://www.dca.gov.uk/consult/general/courtsb.htm.
Luigi was appointed to the Law Society's Housing Law Committee in March 2006. This committee reports to the Law Reform Board of the Law Society and, on behalf of solicitors in England and Wales, provides a response to consultations on initiatives for law reform in specific legal areas.
